Marilu Delgado - Created CAT, (Community in Action Team) which serves the Castro School Rengstorff Park area.
She became involved with the MV housing crisis well over three years ago. CAT members and friends told her of their unjust increased rents and wanted to know what she could do. They organized and had grassroots meetings regarding the rental crisis. CAT united with other MV residents and community leaders such as Maria Marroquin from the MV Day Worker Center and formed the Mountan View Tenant Coalition (MVTC). On April 2015, she was honored by state Sen. Jerry Hill as the 2015 Woman of the Year. Anonymous - I live in a mobile home, my dad decided to buy this because it would give us a more stable place, we moved because the apartment we lived in was getting extremely expensive, it was 2,600 for 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms, although they were really nice it was not worth it.I am not being affected by this issue but I know plenty of people that are currently being affected, they have to move far and still make it to school, there parents have to work extra hard and it is just to much for a teenager to handle
Anonymous - Apartment 2 $1,500 5 people, Yes, about 100 as of 2 months agoAlthough it might not seem like a lot .. It is because this is about the third time I can remember as of the last 6 months. I mean, we already went to protest and although I don't know what the outcome of it was .. It probably did help, if we do another one it might help out . Honestly I don't like the prices going up, this is forcing people out of their homes which in some cases people have been living in that location for years and years. Johnny - I'm not really struggling with rent but I've seen a lot of families that have moved from place to place because of rent. One of my closest friends used to live in Mountain View but moved away to Santa Clara because the rent was just too much for him and his family. I think that they should at least increase the minimum wage even more than what it already is.
Chris -I am also not in a struggling situation with rent, but I think that it is something that is getting worse and worse each day. Many families are having to move out of MVLA district because of the raise of rent. This is affecting the lives of many teenagers and kids that already go to many schools around here and now have to transfer to other schools to the areas they are leaving to. This is not fair to many families that already do their best to maintain their families. I think that this is unjust and needs to be dealt with immediately Jonathan-My aunt was struggling with rent a couple of months ago and it got so bad that she had to come to our apartment for a month. I think that rent prices has been a problem for years and its just getting worse. We need to do something to get rent prices into a range that is affordable. |
